Ultra Electronics APL, taking you to the movies....

BBC use latest technology in docu-drama

If you have been watching TV lately, you may have seen something rather familiar.

The BBC have just produced and shown a series of programs called SAS Survival Secrets -illustrating various techniques and skills employed by the SAS in counter terrorist situations.  One of these programs featured the response to a hostage scenario and subsequent assault on the building.

The program emphasised the planning and preparation that is needed prior to any intervention or attempt to free hostages.  We were asked if we would be willing to donate a little time and resource in ensuring the forward planning centre bore some realism in terms of the facilities that are available to the unit, and happily obliged.

The set included Atlas computer terminals combined with large plasma touch screens used for planning and briefing.

We were also asked to supply Atlas OPS Operators to be used during filming.  Although due to overseas commitments we were unable to be there ourselves, a veteran Atlas OPS user stepped into the breach to become a 'Movie Superstar' for a weekend, namely Steve Riddle from Wiltshire Ambulance Service.

Our great thanks go to both Steve (or 'Rocky' as he now prefers to be called) for his considerable efforts in assisting the Beeb and showing why every home should use Atlas OPS, and Kevin for his input and expert knowledge of using SMART technologies.
